We are a family that has lived in the Galápagos Islands for over 30 years. We have dedicated most of our lives to the conservation of the archipelago through institutions such as the Galápagos National Park and the Charles Darwin Research Station. We offer accommodation to families who want to discover the incredible world of Galápagos.
Maytenus Octogona, better known as Arrayancillo, is a small tree that grows in arid climatic regions. It has a dark brown bark and long, hanging branches. Its round, leathery-textured leaves are positioned vertically to minimize sun exposure. When it matures, its round fruits open to release three fleshy, bright red seeds.
At Hostal Maytenus Galápagos, we make use of natural light and ventilation, and we use low-energy LED lights and bulbs. We utilize energy-efficient equipment and provide water dispensers suitable for human consumption. We collect rainwater and use it for garden irrigation, along with water from the washing machine. Native and endemic plant species are part of our gardens. We sort and recycle waste, and we use biodegradable soap dispensers and cleaning products.
Additionally, at Maytenus Galápagos, we consume food produced by local farmers (seasonal fruit, jam, organic Galápagos coffee), apply the Child Protection Code, and hire local services.
